Replacement Timber windows and doors throughout Suffolk home complete a beautiful cottage renovation
We were thrilled to be invited to this picturesque country residence on a lovely June evening, to see what a difference our bespoke replacement timber windows and doors have made to owners, Sarah and Ian.
Relocating from Cambridgeshire, the family visited and fell in love with our wonderful Suffolk villages and were delighted when the property, that is now their home, became available. They knew when they saw the breath-taking view over the garden, and the wheat and barley fields beyond, this was the place for them.

The house was originally built in 1952 by Reades of Aldeburgh. Sarah, Ian and their children moved into the cottage in 1997, and in 1998 the family added a gable extension, sympathetically blending the new part of the house with the original building, even using the same builders almost 50 years later.
Fast forward to 2022, the children lovingly referred to the décor of their home as being like a 1980’s ski chalet, as it was mainly orange in colour due to a considerable amount of stained pine.
The decision was taken to renovate the entire house, replacing the original windows which leaked and were draughty and cold. The property required rewiring and the interior was completely updated. Sarah and Ian chose interior designers Rendall & Wright, who then recommended us and our bespoke timber windows and doors. Ipswich based AMS Carpentry were chosen for their building and decorating.
“We visited the Burgess Group showroom, really liked the windows and decided that we definitely wanted wood.
We looked at other companies, but we liked the quality, and as our project was quite an undertaking, we needed someone we could trust.”

As part of the renovation, the front door was moved to the side of the house, where we replaced an original window with a beautiful, statement-making timber entrance door.
Timber French doors were chosen for either side of the kitchen, allowing full length views from both the dining and sitting areas, and almost 30 flush timber casements replaced every window in the cottage.
“We chose a style with less bars than the original windows, providing us with much better views.
The beautiful new windows maintain a cottagey feel, with a more modern uplift.
The house is so much warmer, and quieter. We don’t even notice the crows at 4am anymore!”
Of their experience with our installation team, Sarah and Ian kindly added:
“They were fantastic – really nice people, we were rather sad to see them go.
The overall experience was very positive, pleasant and quick.”
A huge thank you to Sarah and Ian for being so welcoming and allowing us to share photographs of their beautiful home.
