Keeping the heat in with new windows and doors
Dawn wanted to restore her cottages charming aesthetic, whilst keeping the road noise out and the heat in. The existing single-glazed windows were draughty, difficult to open and prone to condensation, leaving the cottage cold and contributing to higher energy bills.
Rather than simply repairing and repainting the existing windows, she wanted a more complete, long-term solution that would improve the cottage’s appearance, warmth, security and energy efficiency.
Finding quality products close to home
Following a recommendation from her decorator, Dawn popped into our Notcutts showroom, a stone’s throw from her house.
Keen to use a local company, Dawn wanted to explore her options. Seeing and handling the windows and doors in person helped her compare timber and timber alternative options, while our team talked her through the different designs, finishes and benefits. Ultimately, it was the combination of quality, choice, low maintenance and the professionalism of the team that made us stand out.

Choosing timber alternative windows
Replacing the four sash windows at the front of the cottage was the first phase of this project. Undecided between traditional timber or a timber alternative, Dawn found that seeing and handling the products in the showroom helped her make an informed decision.
With guidance from The Burgess Group team and time to consider her options at home, she ultimately chose Bygone Harmony timber alternative sash windows for their combination of character and minimal maintenance.
The windows and doors have made my house warmer and more comfortable. The noise levels have reduced dramatically too. I no longer hear conversations from people walking past, which used to be a real problem for my dog.
An elegant timber entrance door
Dawn was so impressed with her windows that she later returned to us for a front door and stable door too, opting for a Meranti hardwood material to complement the woodgrain finish of the timber alternative windows.
For her new door, she chose the Kingston design with raised and fielded panels. Finished in French Grey with an Off White frame, the sophisticated colour palette enhances the character of the property. The 316 coastal polished stainless steel hardware proved a durable and practical option, particularly well suited to the cottage’s coastal location.
As the entrance is positioned directly on the street, Dawn chose Etched Star glass to maximise natural light while maintaining privacy.
These carefully considered details come together to create an entrance that is both elegant and perfectly in keeping with the home.
I’ve had so many compliments. I even had someone knock on my door and ask me where I bought it from.
A stable door crafted for everyday life
Designed to mirror the new front door, the timber stable door at the rear of the cottage continues the same elegant style while offering greater flexibility for everyday living.
Clear glass provides uninterrupted views to the garden, while the 316 coastal polished stainless steel handle matches the hardware of the front door.
My stable door is amazing in the summer. I leave the top of the door open for fresh air and for the cats to come in and out, but the lower half can stay shut to keep the dog in.
Leaving a lasting impression
I liked the company so much that after buying my windows and doors, I joined it!
