A traditional timber front door transforms a much-loved Ipswich home

A traditional approach to a new entrance door

Having lived in their home for nearly 16 years, Matt and Becca have gradually transformed their house into a place that feels truly their own. Becca grew up on the estate and had always hoped to live there herself, making the property particularly special to them. After lots of renovations over the years, they decided it was time to turn their attention to the front entrance.

They wanted to give the house a slightly more traditional feel, while introducing more natural light into the hallway without compromising privacy. For the couple, having someone to help bring those ideas together was an important part of the process and they already knew where they wanted to start when the time came to choose their new door.

We often visit Notcutts Garden Centre in Woodbridge and had always admired The Burgess Group showroom there so we knew it would be our first stop when looking for the perfect front door.

A beautifully balanced front door

The couple had a clear vision for the proportions of the entrance. Rather than retaining the existing arrangement, they chose to centre the new Braithwaite design door and frame it with narrower side panels, creating a more balanced and considered entrance.

For Matt and Becca, the introduction of sandblasted glass with clear borders provides the balance they were looking for, allowing light through while maintaining privacy. An etched door number provides a subtle finishing touch.

Finished externally in a colour matched to Farrow & Ball French Grey, with an Off White interior, the door complements the property from both sides. The look is completed with Samuel Heath ironmongery with its warm bronze finish enhancing the traditional styling of the timber door.

We were absolutely thrilled with the finished result. The style and colour complement not only the outside of the house but inside too, we couldn’t be more pleased.

A transformative addition to the home

The new door has given the front of the house a completely different character, bringing the more traditional feel Matt and Becca wanted while working harmoniously with the rest of the property.

We were absolutely thrilled with the finished result. The style and colour complement not only the outside of the house but inside too, we couldn’t be more pleased.

After years of gradually making changes to their home, the new front door feels like a natural part of its evolution, creating an entrance that feels personal to them and entirely at home within the property.

The finished result has certainly attracted attention, too. Since the installation, the couple have had people stopping to ask where it came from, a lovely reflection of the impression the new door has made.
