Wood alternative sash windows and doors revive Woodbridge family home

Mr and Mrs Olding have owned their home in the centre of Woodbridge for more than 35 years. It is a spacious and impressive house on a thoroughfare into this affluent Suffolk market town, and after three and a half decades the original windows had become tired and dated. What the couple wanted was not to change the character of the house, but to keep it: replacement windows and doors that looked almost exactly like the originals, while quietly bringing the warmth, quiet and security the old ones could no longer provide.

A Recommendation That Ran in the Family

Some of the most reassuring recommendations are the ones that come from your own children. Both of the Oldings’ grown up children had used The Burgess Group before, across a number of their own property renovations, and had been delighted with the windows and doors each time. One of those projects was featured on the television programme Best Laid Plans. With that kind of first hand experience close to home, the couple had no hesitation in asking the team to help them too.

Visiting the showroom which is located in their hometown of Woodbridge in Suffolk, Mr and Mrs Olding explored all the options available and decided on Bygone Harmony sash windows and Evolution doors including a side, stable and four sets of French doors.

The showroom and staff were really helpful in helping us to finalise our product choice.

Like for like, but better in every way that matters

The brief was a considered one. Rather than redesign anything, Mr and Mrs Olding wanted windows almost identical in appearance to the originals, so that the house would look untouched from the street while performing far better than before. The Bygone Harmony sash is well suited to exactly this: slim rails and authentic sash proportions that hold the traditional look, combined with modern sealed units that add insulation, noticeably reduce noise from the road, and improve security on a house that sits on a busy route into town.

For a home on a thoroughfare, that combination of warmth, quiet and peace of mind makes a real everyday difference, without any visible sign that the windows are anything other than original.

The windows and doors retain the style and comfort of our home.
