Suffolk cottage has beauty restored with arched wooden windows & door

Restoring the original charm of a Victorian country cottage

This beautiful 1850’s cottage in Lawshall, Suffolk, has been lovingly restored with our wooden casement windows, which have sympathetically replicated the original style of the house.

The property had fallen into disrepair, but the new owners, Yvonne and Lee, swiftly set about breathing new life into their home with the elegant arched design replacement windows, and a carefully considered new front door.

We spent ages thinking about the design, style, colour and ironmongery – we love our new door.

Replicating heritage design with bespoke timber windows

The couple were keen to remain sympathetic to the age of their cottage, retaining the distinctive character and proportions of the original windows wherever possible.

Our timber cottage flush casement windows provided the perfect solution with bespoke true arch swept heads carefully crafted to replicate the original architectural detail. Designed for smaller openings, cottage casements take away the need for a central mullion, maximising views.

Finished in a soft Off White, with traditional black peardrop handles and pegstays adding an authentic period touch, every detail has been carefully considered to enhance the distinctive character of the windows, ensuring they feel entirely at home within this charming cottage.

An engineered timber entrance door built to last

Having experienced warping with wooden front doors in previous properties, Yvonne and Lee were initially hesitant about choosing timber again. However, our engineered timber doors offered the reassurance they needed. Crafted from European Redwood, the multi-layered construction helps minimise the risk of twisting and warping. In addition, a 30-year guarantee against rot and fungal decay, alongside a 12-year paint guarantee, provided added peace of mind.

For their cottage, the couple selected the Kingston design door in elegant French Grey. Black ironmongery creates a striking contrast, while Etched Star glass adds decorative interest and enhances privacy. The combination creates a distinctive yet timeless look, perfectly complementing the character of their home.

The result is a beautiful, secure and solid entrance door which combines the timeless appeal of natural timber with the durability and performance the couple were looking for.
