Restoring the original charm of a Victorian country cottage

This beautiful 1850’s cottage in Lawshall, Suffolk, has been lovingly restored with our wooden casement windows, which have sympathetically replicated the original style of the house.

The property had fallen into disrepair, but the new owners, Yvonne and Lee, swiftly set about breathing new life into their home with the elegant arched design replacement windows, and a carefully considered new front door.

We spent ages thinking about the design, style, colour and ironmongery – we love our new door.

Replicating heritage design with bespoke timber windows

The couple were keen to remain sympathetic to the age and architecture of their cottage, retaining the distinctive character and proportions of the original windows wherever possible. In particular, a key feature which they wanted to preserve within the new window design was the beautiful arched shape.

Our timber cottage flush casement windows provided the perfect solution with bespoke true arch swept heads carefully crafted to replicate the original architectural detail. Finished in a soft Off White, the windows complement the traditional character of the cottage while providing a fresh and beautifully considered finish. The attention to detail continued through to the choice of traditional hardware; black peardrop handles and pegstays to add an authentic period touch.

Together, these carefully considered details enhance the distinctive character of the windows; they look right at home within this charming cottage.

An engineered timber entrance door built to last

Having encountered issues with wooden front doors in previous properties warping over time, Yvonne and Lee were initially cautious about opting for timber again. However, when they discovered our engineered timber doors, manufactured from European Redwood, they were quick to notice the difference in quality and were reassured by the product guarantees.

For their new entrance, they chose the Kingston design in elegant French Grey with striking black furniture and Etched Star glass. The combination creates a distinctive yet timeless look, perfectly complementing the character of their home.

The result is a beautiful, secure and solid entrance door which combines the timeless appeal of natural timber with the durability and performance our clients were looking for.
