Contemporary lipped casement windows rejuvenate Bury St Edmunds barn conversion
Updating a barn conversion with a new timber entrance door and windows
After living in their converted barn on the outskirts of Bury St Edmunds for over 27 years, Mr and Mrs August decided it was time to finally update the old and draughty windows and doors.
An online search led them to The Burgess Group and a visit to our Bury St Edmunds Showroom was when they first saw the products that met with their tastes and requirements.
Modern style casement windows
The approach for the replacing the windows had a key emphasis not only on the insulation properties but also on simple, understated design.
We like unfussy lines when it comes to the design side of things and were very focussed on getting this right.
Mr & Mrs August chose to replace the original dark brown windows, with our Contemporary Lipped Casement windows (also known as StormProof Windows) finished in London Grey with stainless steel ironmongery.
This style of casement has a sash that overlaps the frame and the Contemporary variation a squarer, more angular edge to the styling.
A statement front door with large glazed panels
The new entrance is an impressive two storey feature with striking side and top lights incorporated seamlessly to frame the solid Bevington design door, also all finished in London Grey to match the new windows.
As a traditional twist, Mr & Mrs August selected the black Kirkpatrick door handle and letterbox, a choice sympathetic to the barn.
The black ironmongery gives a nod to the history of the building, without being too brutal on the contemporary side. The symmetry of lines in the front door and glass formation was very important to us.
