Modern style casement windows

When replacing the windows, insulation and energy efficiency were important considerations, but so too was achieving a simple, understated aesthetic that would complement the property.

We like unfussy lines when it comes to the design side of things and were very focussed on getting this right.

Mr & Mrs August chose our Contemporary Lipped Casement windows, also known as StormProof Windows, to replace the original dark brown windows. Finished in London Grey with stainless steel ironmongery, the new windows provide a clean and modern finish while remaining sympathetic to the character of the barn conversion.

Alongside their considered appearance, the windows combine traditional styling with modern performance. Lipped casements feature a sash that overlaps the outer frame, designed to offer excellent thermal efficiency. The Contemporary variation takes this familiar style and gives it a squarer, more angular profile, with simple lines that suit both traditional and more modern properties.

A statement front door with large glazed panels

The new entrance is an impressive two storey architectural feature with striking side and top lights incorporated seamlessly to frame the solid Bevington design door. Finished in London Grey to match the new windows, the entrance creates a strong sense of symmetry while allowing natural light to flood into the hallway.

To complement the barn’s character, Mr & Mrs August selected the traditional style black Kirkpatrick door handle and letterbox, a subtle reference to the building’s heritage.

The black ironmongery gives a nod to the history of the building, without being too brutal on the contemporary side. The symmetry of lines in the front door and glass formation was very important to us.

The result is a warm and welcoming entrance that balances the character of a traditional timber door with a clean, contemporary feel.
