Bringing warmth to Cambridge home with timber and aluminium windows and doors

Our customers, James and Jules knew exactly what they wanted with their home renovation in Cambridge. That was, to keep more heat in, reduce the road noise and bring in more light, a good example being the kitchen which was north facing. Of course, the aesthetics of the new doors had to be perfect as well.

Recommended to us by their architect, James and Jules saw a selection of products in our Fornham St. Martin Showroom near Bury St Edmunds. There they were able to view our timber casement windows and front doors. Also on display were our Sunflex slimline sliding doors, with the desirable 20mm mullion. We were delighted to work with them on their project.

Sunflex SVG30 Slimline Sliding Doors in Cambridge

At the back of this end terraced house is a substantial extension leading out to a contemporary patio area and garden. For this part of the house our Sunflex sliding doors were the perfect choice. Sunflex sliding doors are a premium product, with flawless engineering and meticulous attention to detail.

Designed in a two-panel configuation, Sunflex slimline sliding doors boast the desirable 30mm central mullion that gives unobstructed views. One of the significant benefits of choosing and SVG30 is it comes with non of the complexity of fully bonded sliding doors.

In the unlikely event that anything were to happen to the glass in the future, all the doors need is a fast glass replacement. Bonded doors would require the complete panel to come out and be taken away to be reglazed in a factory environment.

As a result, Sunflex door not only provide the sightlines of fully bonded doors, but also with none of the complexity and absolute long-term peace of mind. This is also due to Sunflex being one of longest established and stable sliding door manufacturers in the UK today.

Alongside the beautiful heritage green colour, Sunflex slimline sliding doors boasts flush stacking, a low track and the option to open either the left or right hand leaf. Other features include high security multipoint locking, colour-mateched green with stainless steel bar handle and lock with a flush track and full weather protection.

Also provided to the doors are trickle ventilators to the head, ensuring they fully meet Part F of Building Regulations.

Timber Windows – Traditional meets contemporary

Our timber casement windows combine authentic craftsmanship with advanced performance, made to measure for every property style. For this project in Cambridge, each window is manufactured from multi-layer engineered timber to resist warping and twisting, with factory-applied microporous coatings that ensure long-lasting protection and minimal upkeep.

Designed in the lipped lipped (stormproof) design, they feature enhanced double glass units, with internal beading fitted from the room side for added peace of mind.

Bringing timber windows and slimline sliding doors efforlessly together

With six distinctive designs inspired by British architectural traditions, our timber casement range suits everything from classic cottages to contemporary homes. Every detail can be tailored — from glazing bars, stained or etched glass, and decorative leadwork to handles and stays from the Samuel Heath collection. Supported by robust multi-point locking systems and industry-leading guarantees, Burgess Group timber windows bring enduring style, performance, and craftsmanship to every home.

We love the character of James and Jules’ home, and how their new timber windows complement the brick and traditional features of the property.

Engineered timber is an excellent choice for noise reduction, as its density and naturally insulating properties help absorb and block sound waves. This combines with enhanced glazing and exceptional seals to create a window that keeps the heat in and the noise out.

The rear of the property blends traditional with contemporary, with the sliding doors sleek lines and side window alongside rustic brick and black timber cladding.
